VC Market Update (Looking Back at Q3 Data)

Hello everyone! We put a bow on Q3 last week and are starting to digest what happened and where the market is going. We will share more on this as we dig in deeper this quarter.

At a high level, I can tell you that AI valuations are still crazy, led by OpenAI at the top ($157 billion) and trickling all the way down to the VC seed market.

The Q3 2024 Pitchbook-NVCA Venture Monitor should be coming out later this week - keep your eye out for that! We love the data that the report contains each quarter.

In the meantime, Carta released some preliminary data via their “State of Private Markets: Q3 2024.” Here are some of our favorite takeaways (words and charts) as we head into Q4:

  • Seed valuations steady: $15m pre, $18.8m post

  • Series A up: $46m pre, $57m post

  • Series B down: $100m pre, $117m post

  • Series C up big: $360m pre, $400m post

  • Series D: not enough data points to make sense?

  • Series E+: $668m pre, $719m post
