Welcome to a Sunday Special folks! We wanted to start you off (again) with some of our top reads of recent history, VC CFO style:

Top CFO Takes (LA VC & SXSW in ATX)

As you know, we’re closely following conferences, including best insights shared and how it impacts VC GPs, CFOs / Finance Pros, and LPs. We updated you last week with #138 Top VC Reads, LA VC Week, LP/GP Evaluation Frameworks.

As we kick off the new week w/ SXSW in ATX, we wanted to share top CFO takes:

  1. February’s jobs report shows a healthy but cooling labor market. The economy added 275,000 jobs in February, but the government said January's figures were not nearly as high as previously indicated, revising January's job gains down by 124,000 to 229,000. While the job gains are good news, the unemployment rate crept up by 0.2% to 3.9%, the highest it has been since early 2022. (Chamath Palihapitiya)

  2. LP Takes from Beezer Clarkson: 💎 quality of founders starting companies today is high with investment activity at the earliest stages picking up💎Series As and Bs still hard to get done, growth even harder💎Tale of two cities for startups - AI co valuations still defy gravity while solid businesses are getting less than stellar valuation multiples💎 Some data suggests smaller is better - funds smaller than $300M outperform larger firms although the larger funds are needed as massive asset allocators can’t write $50-100M checks efficiently into more focused, early stage managers💎There are over 5,000 funds <$250M 🤯 - sadly unlikely all will raise a subsequent fund as LPs have limited room to add new managers and historical attrition rate between Fund I and II is 50%
